Mr Bones 2, the much anticipated film from South Africa’s Number One Box Office Star, Leon Schuster shattered all opening box office records for local films, earning over R6 million, making it the most successful South African film opening ever, outgrossing previous record holders Mr Bones 1, Mama Jack and the big blockbuster releases earlier this year among which are Quantum Of Solace, High School Musical 3, Hancock, Kung Fu Panda, Iron Man, Dark Knight and Mamma Mia. The top grossing cinema for the opening was the Gateway Cinemas in Durban which grossed over R300 000. Also most shows this weekend were sold out in advance. Industry experts predict that Mr Bones 2 will out-gross the record R33million box office of Mr Bones 1 and estimate that Mr Bones 2 has a shot at toppling Titanic’s box office record which earned over R40 million and holds the record as the Highest Grossing Film ever in South Africa.
