Mr Bones 2: Back From The Past had the biggest sneak preview release this past weekend, at 76 cinemas across the country, becoming the most successful Sneak Preview release of all time for a South African film. The film earned more than R1million in just two days, with the Gateway Cinema in Durban grossing almost R70 000. Mr Bones 2 will also have the biggest theatrical release for a South African film when it is released at 110 screens on Thursday, 27 November. Mr Bones 2 which stars Leon Schuster along with Leeanda Reddy, Kaseran Pillay, Tongayi Chirisa, Meren Reddy, Keith Gengadoo and funny man Alfred Ntombela, is directed by Gray Hofmeyr and produced by Anant Singh and Helena Spring.
Cinemas across the country reported that the sneak previews received an unprecedented positive response with audiences flocking to see the film, resulting in sold-out shows at most venues. A festive atmosphere prevailed at some cinemas with employees getting into the spirit of the film by dressing up as the Mr Bones character. Audiences have unanimously declared that Mr Bones 2 was funnier than Mr Bones 1 and that they were in stitches for the entire film. Also, due to the huge demand for tickets over the weekend, many cinemas have requested additional prints of the film.
Producer, Anant Singh commented, “We are delighted that audiences are responding so well to the sequel. Mr Bones is a very precious brand and we wanted to create a follow-up that is as good or better than the original and it seems like we have succeeded. Mr Bones 2 will no doubt be the biggest film this holiday season and it is on the way to breaking all box office records like Mr Bones 1 did when it was released in 2001 and out grossed big Hollywood movies like Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter.”
Mr Bones 2 will be released nationally on Thursday, 27 November 2008.
