‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ To Open Indian International Film Festival of Toronto

The Honourable David C. Onley Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Canada will host the opening night gala of the Indian International Film Festival of Toronto (IIFFT) tonight where  Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom will be the opening night film.  Nelson Mandela’s daughter, Zenani Dlamini and producer Anant Singh will be in attendance as guests of honour.

IIFFT is a cultural organization which celebrates and promotes Indian cinema and filmmakers in North America in order to achieve its vision to build stronger relationships through the art of cinema. The festival serves as an influential networking platform for talent, filmmakers, distributors and producers.

“For us at IIFFT, it is a huge honour to be opening our Festival this year with Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom,” said Malik Ahmad, Executive Director of IIFFT.  “It is our tribute to an icon who has touched people globally.  We are thrilled to have his daughter Zenani Dlamini and producer of the film, Anant Singh as our chief guests.”

Anant Singh said, “We are thrilled to be in Toronto with Zenani, supporting the initiative of the Indian International Film Festival of Toronto and to be hosted by the Lieutenant Governor at the opening night screening of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. We are very proud of the film and its success around the world.”

In addition to its worldwide release, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom continues to be a sought after film internationally.  Last month, Isola del Cinema in Rome and at the Ischia Global Fest on the Italian island of Ischia and the Rwanda International Film Festival had gala screenings to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July.
