The phenomenally successful film, Mr Bones 2 which was released on 27 November 2008 has achieved the ultimate record by becoming the Highest Grossing South African Film of All Time by passing, in less than two months, the record set by Bones 1 which was released in 2001 and earned R33 062 468 in a period of 5 months.
Audiences have been flocking to see Mr Bones 2 at cinemas across the country, resulting in the rapid box office earning of the film, making it the first film in South Africa to reach this record figure in this fastest time of less than two months, which is faster than Titanic took to reach this figure. Cinemas have reported record earnings for the release of the film with cinemas in Kwa Zulu-Natal where Mr Bones 2 was shot, having the top earning cinemas in the country – the Gateway Cinema Complex has earned in excess of R2 million, followed by the Pavilion and SunCoast CineCentre cinemas which have earned more than a R1 million each.
Lead star and creator of Mr Bones, Leon Schuster said, “This is amazing !
