Transporter 3 has raced to new box office records by notching up R5 million since its release on 16 January 2009. Transporter 3, acquired by Videovision Entertainment, passed the total box office earnings of Transporter 1 in its first 10 days of release and Transporter 2 in its third weekend. The Transporter franchise has developed a cult following in South Africa and this has contributed to the box office success of Transporter 3.
Directed by Olivier Megaton, Transporter 3 stars Jason Statham, Robert Knepper, Francois Berleand with Luc Besson as co-producer and co-writer with Robert Mark Kamen. The film tracks skilled driver, Frank Martin who is forced into transporting the kidnapped daughter of the head of the Environmental Agency for the Ukraine from Marseilles to Odessa. In the process, he enlists the assistance of Inspector Tarconi in accomplishing the treacherous assignment in this action-packed instalment of the popular action series. Frank is not exactly thrilled with his latest assignment, but when his employer turns up the pressure, he has little choice but to deliver.
Sanjeev Singh, Director of Acquisitions and Distribution of Videovision Entertainment said, “We are thrilled with the amazing box office performance of Transporter 3. The action packed film has performed exceptionally well, surpassing our expectations.”
Transporter 3 is a Videovision Entertainment release through United International Pictures (South Africa).
