Mr Bones 2 Scares Off Madagascar 2’s African Expedition

Following its record-breaking opening week, Leon Schuster’s Mr Bones 2 has continued its box office success by retaining its Number One position for the second consecutive weekend and as the top grossing film in South Africa out-grossing the new release, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa by almost R500 000. Mr Bones 2 has grossed more than R12.5 million to date.

“We are delighted that Mr Bones 2 has retained its position as the Number One box office earner in South Africa for the second consecutive weekend,” said producer Anant Singh. “We are delighted to have out-performed Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa which was released on Friday, 5 December. This is a highly competitive period in the cinema industry with huge international films competing for a slice of the South African box office and we are proud that our locally produced film has given these international films a run for their money,” continued Singh.

Leon Schuster commented, “It is very exciting that now that the holidays have begun, families are going to cinemas and embracing our film.”

Last week, Mr Bones 2 broke local box office records when it grossed R9 million its opening week, becoming the Highest Grossing South African Film Of All Time in its Opening Week, outgrossing previous record holders Mr Bones 1, Mama Jack and the big international blockbuster releases earlier this year among which are Quantum Of Solace, High School Musical 3, Hancock, Kung Fu Panda, Iron Man, Dark Knight and Mamma Mia. Quantum Of Solace and Madagascar 2 are current international hits, each grossing over half a billion Dollars to date.
