RED CARPET ROLL OUT OF ‘MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM’ CONTINUES

Saturday, 23 November 2013: The national rollout of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom continued this week with premieres in East London on Thursday, and Cape Town last night ahead of the special sneak previews taking place this weekend across the country.

Walking the red carpet at the East London premiere were principal cast members Tony Kgoroge, Terry Pheto, Atandwa Kani, Zolani Mkiva and the Eastern Cape based cast including the 10-year old Siza Pini who plays Mandela as a child.  The Mandela family was represented by Mandla Mandela’s wife Nodiyala, Zwelithembile Mandela, Mvezo village head Jongisizwe Dani and the Mvezo Traditional Council. Xhosa King Zwelonke Sigcawu, regional government officials, the CEO and senior management of the Nelson Mandela Museum in Qunu were also present.

In Cape Town last night, producer Anant Singh joined Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Terry Pheto, Atandwa Kani, Deon Lotz and special guests including Mandela’s friends and comrades, Ahmed Kathrada and Eddie Daniels, Cape Town Mayor, Patricia De Lille, actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards, cartoonist, Zapiro and personalities from the film and television industry. Hollywood star, Katie Holmes who is currently shooting a film in Cape Town watched the film seated next to Ahmed Kathrada who took her on a tour of Robben Island two weeks ago.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom is an epic motion picture that spans Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary life, from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected President of South Africa.  It is the thrilling story of an ordinary man who rose to the challenge of his times and triumphed against all odds.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom will be released first in South Africa on 28 November 2013 followed by releases in other countries.
