The Videovision Entertainment acquisition, Paradise Now won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film last week while other films acquired by the company,Goodnight And Good Luckreceived six Orange British Academy Award Nominations, including Best Picture, while March Of The Penguins received two nominations. It is also expected that Paradise Now will receive an Oscar Nomination in the Best Foreign Language Category on 31 January.
Paradise Now which was acquired by Videovision Entertainment last year, opened the Durban International Film Festival where its director Hany Abu-Assad, won the Best Director Award. The film has received wide critical acclaim and is a favourite to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Foreign Language category. The film is a fascinating and moving story of two suicide bombers in the 24 hours leading up to a suicide attack.
Good Night. And, Good Luckstars George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr., David Strathairn, Patricia Clarkson, Jeff Daniels and Frank Langella. The film was shot in black-and-white and is set during the McCarthy-era witch hunts of the 1950s. Good Night. And, Good Luck is a tale of broadcasting courage and tells the story of broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow’s efforts to expose the hounding tactics of Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee in their anti-communist crusade. The film is Clooney’s second film as director.
The much lauded documentary feature March Of The Penguins has captured the imagination of audiences around the world. The film documents the remarkable journey made by Emperor Penguins every year, as they abandon their ocean homes and clamber onto the frozen ice and to begin a journey into a region so bleak and extreme that it supports no other wildlife during this time of the year. These penguins do this solely driven by the overpowering urge to reproduce and to assure the survival of their species.
