STATEMENT FROM ANANT SINGH ON "U-CARMEN EKHAYELITSHA" WINNING THE GOLDEN BEAR AWARD
"I am delighted and proud that U-Carmen eKhayelitsha has won the prestigious
Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. My heartiest
congratulations go to Pauline Malefane, Mark Dornford-May, Dick Enthoven and
the Carmen team on this great achievement.
I admire Mark's courage and commitment to this project, both on stage and on
screen. U-Carmen eKhayelitsha is certainly a unique South African version of
Bizet's timeless opera in the Xhosa language and one that illustrates the
universality of the story."
